Special Education Sub Plans Template

A substitute can't know your students — but your notes can carry what matters: who needs what, what works, and who to call. Keep this filled in and current.

How to use it

  • Keep one sheet per student with supports, triggers, and what works — update monthly
  • Over-explain the schedule: transitions are where sub days go sideways
  • Leave a clearly marked "when in doubt, do this" instruction for behavior moments

BEHAVIOR — WHEN IN DOUBT
1. Stay calm, use fewer words

3. Call [support on call] rather than handling escalation alone
4. Log what happened (time, trigger, what you did) — the teacher
will want the facts, not a verdict
