Daily Parent Update Template
Families hear from schools mostly when something is wrong. A short positive update changes that — and takes two minutes when it follows a structure.
How to use it
- Lead with something specific and positive — even on hard days
- Keep it short: three to five sentences beats a paragraph wall
- Name one thing the family can ask about at home
The template
Hi [Parent name], Quick update on [Student]'s day: Highlight: [One specific positive moment — what they did and why it mattered] Progress: [One line on an IEP goal or skill — e.g., "Read her sight words with only one prompt today, which is her best yet this week"] One note: [Optional honest note about a challenge, framed with what the team did and the plan] At home you could ask about: [Something they did or learned today] Thanks for everything you do, [Teacher name]
