IEP Progress Monitoring
Data in, decisions out — on a schedule you can keep.
IEP progress monitoring is the regular review of goal data to answer three questions: is the student progressing, is the current support working, and what should change if not? It's also how you fulfill the IEP's reporting requirement to families.
The monitoring cycle
- Collect consistent data on each goal (a few probes a week)
- Review trends on a regular rhythm — weekly or biweekly, not just before meetings
- Make one decision at a time: keep, adjust, or intensify the support
- Report progress to families in plain language, on the timeline the IEP specifies
Reading the trend
Look at the direction, the level, and the variability. A flat line with full support means the current approach isn't working; steady growth with less prompting means it's time to fade supports. A single bad data point is noise — a pattern is information.
How Spark supports monitoring
- Mastery percentages update automatically as data accumulates
- Goal status indicators (on track, needs attention, concern) surface priorities at a glance
