How to Track IEP Goals

A daily workflow that survives a real teaching day.

Tracking IEP goals well isn't about working harder — it's about a workflow that fits inside instruction instead of competing with it. Here's the loop Spark was designed around.

Step 1: Set goals up for trackability

Write goals with an observable behavior and a criterion, then enter them into Spark with a category and target percentage. A goal you can't probe is a goal you can't track — fix the wording before the tracking starts.

Step 2: Probe during natural moments

Most goals have natural probe moments: the morning greeting, small-group reading, the transition routine. Log independent, prompted, or unable right there — ten seconds during instruction beats thirty minutes of reconstruction after school.

Step 3: Review weekly

Once a week, look at each goal's trend — Spark's dashboard and weekly report give you the view in one screen. Flag goals that need attention, decide on one adjustment, and note it so next week's data tests your decision.

Step 4: Report before it's due

When the reporting window arrives, the data is already collected and graphed. Export what the IEP requires, and let Spark draft the family-facing summary — review, edit, send.
