IEP Math Goal Examples
Computation, fluency, and problem solving goals to adapt.
Sample math goals following the measurable pattern — condition, behavior, criterion, measurement. Adjust numbers, operations, and supports for the individual learner.
Computation example
"Given 10 two-digit subtraction problems with regrouping, the student will solve 8 correctly with no more than one teacher-provided prompt in 3 consecutive weekly probes."
- Probe: same-format problem set each week
- Data: correct/incorrect plus prompt level
- Track: mastery against the 8-of-10 criterion
Fluency example
"Given a 5-minute mixed-facts probe (addition and subtraction to 20), the student will complete 30 problems with 95% accuracy in 2 of 3 trials by the next review period."
- Probe: timed mixed practice
- Score: problems correct in the window
- Track: rate and accuracy trend
Problem solving example
"Given a one-step word problem with a graphic organizer, the student will identify the correct operation and solve with 80% accuracy in 4 of 5 opportunities."
- Probe: 5-problem sets with the organizer available
- Data: operation identified + correct solution
- Track: both components separately at first
